Always do this?

How important is software in our lives?

Paul Levy, one of the founders of IBM Rational, once remarked, "Ultimately, building software is the world's most important industry. Software today allows a brother in San Jose to call a sister in St. Petersburg. Software today speeds the process of drug discovery, potentially curing Alzheimer's. Software today drives the imaging systems that allow the early detection of breast cancer and other maladies. Software controls the passive restraint systems and antilock breaking systems that save children's lives in automobiles every day. Software powers our communication and transportation technologies. Software allows us to peer deep within ourselves and study the human genome. Software allows us to explore and understand our universe. And, make no mistake about it, we are just getting started."

I couldn't agree more!

Oracle or MySQL? Never mind!

At the beginning of 2008, two different DBMS such as Oracle (Proprietary Database) and MySQL (Open Source Database) competed in the market. If, by that time, you had to decide between both databases, you had to spend your time studying which of them matched better your necessities. Now You no longer won't have to worry about what database choose.

You'll be wondering why, won't you?

It's easy. In January 2008, by the time Oracle bought BEA Weblogic, Sun Microsystems bought MySQL.

Today, April 20th 2008, Oracle has announced the acquisition of Sun Microsystems. Therefore, eventually Oracle has acquired MySQL.

Conclusion: If you can't beat them, "buy" them ;-)

Opinion sobre la crisis

"De la crisis actual hay una cosa fundamental y es un millón de personas, en efecto, han perdido el empleo. Los que no han perdido el empleo y no han visto bajar su sueldo, al menos no la están notando tanto. Pero la economía española viene arrastrando desde mucho antes el problema del ladrillo. ¿Cómo se podía pensar que era posible construir en España más edificios que en Reino Unido, Francia y Alemania juntos? Todo el mundo sabía que eso se iba a hundir y que era absolutamente ficticio. Nos falló la competitividad exterior. Lo que está claro es que esos defectos no tienen que pagarlos los trabajadores."

Solo ha una cosa con la que no estoy de acuerdo y es: "Todo el mundo sabía que eso se iba a hundir y que era absolutamente ficticio". Que me explique quien es todo el mundo cuando unos por desconocimiento y otros por "sobreconocimiento" me recomendaban comprarme un piso cuanto antes porque según ellos nunca iban a bajar.

Yo, de verdad que lo siento mucho por la gente que trabajaba en la construcción, pero mientras ellos se estaban forrando no se preocupaban por ejemplo de mi, que con mi sueldo despues de 3 años trabajando como ingeniero no podía comprarme un piso por mi cuenta. Solo me queda decirles que espero que hayan ahorrado y desearles suerte para el futuro. Yo no estoy en mejor situacion que ellos. Pedi una excedencia en mi trabajo para aprender ingles en el extranjero y aún no sé si me concederán el reingreso en plena recesión económica.
